Ensuite | Before & After

I love a good before and after shot and these ones are pretty special...!
This bathroom was in dire need of a renovation and by the time we started, my clients were ready to see the back of the dodgy faded pink carpet and pink fittings & fixtures.
In addition to all that, as much as tongue and groove panelling is experiencing a resurgence right now, this particular style of T&G wasn't going to help transform this bathroom into the sleek and contemporary style my clients were hoping for.

I had already completed a new kitchen for this family so we wanted to take some of the elements that had formed the overall kitchen aesthetic and inject them into the new ensuite design. Their kitchen, that I featured in a previous blog post here  was very simple with black, white and marble.

Concept Board

This shot was taken before the shower glass was installed. I visited a day too early...

The strip lighting on an electronic timer was a fantastic addition. Not only is it practical for middle of the night trips to the bathroom; it also illuminates the beautiful marble floor tiles plus the irregular edged brick wall tiles and helps to make the small ensuite feel more spacious.

As a bit of a nod back to the once completely pink bathroom, we decided to ditch the black rimmed mirror and use this blush pink one instead. It's added a nice hint of colour amongst all the black and white and will always remind them of how far the new ensuite has come :)

Styling With Fur

The cooler months are approaching. Surprisingly, not as quickly as we might have  expected with another 23 degree day here in Dunedin today! Any minute however I'm  sure winter will arrive, and for me that means a few changes take place inside my home  to give it a new look.
I tend to swap out cotton blankets or throws for some fluffy, soft furs which aid in making my home cozy and warm.

One of my favourite places to put a fur or sheepskin is on the chairs around my dining table, on my desk chair, on the end of my bed or over a benchseat.

Furs can be found in a range of colours from blush pink to black and everything in between,  so you will be able to find one that ties in with the colours in your space.

Although the use of fur is normally associated with Scandinavian design, it is certainly not confined to that particular aesthetic as these images below demonstrate.

Check out our Mongolian Lambs Fur Rugs/Throws here. We currently have them in sand, as pictured above and navy.

Wooden Stools | Bathroom Styling

I am working on some bathroom designs at the moment so I'm spending a fair amount of time gathering inspiration for all the various elements in a good bathroom design. Tiles, vanities, tapware, baths, lighting and last but definitely not least accessories.

Those last finishing touches in a bathroom are important and something that I've seen popping up in many bathrooms is a little wooden stool. Some of them are organic and rustic and others have a more sleek contemporary look.

This is both a practical and stylish addition and can assist with adding some warmth especially in modern bathrooms. A stool can serve as an alternative to sitting on the edge of the bath or as a mini table for a vase of flowers, a plant, a selection of your fave products or a glass of wine.

We currently have this three legged beauty by Bloomingville for sale at MintSix. It has an organic, rustic look to it and I think it would look amazing next to a bath in a more modern contemporary bathroom.

Before + After | Kitchen Makeover

The kitchen in this home was perfectly functional and didn't need to be completely ripped out and replaced with a brand spanking new one. My clients simply wanted to update it & put their own (very stylish) stamp on it. I loved assisting these guys with their kitchen, they are super styley peeps & also had a clear idea of what they wanted to achieve. We are all stoked with the final result, I hope you enjoy checking it out.

The key areas that needed to be updated or replaced were the cabinetry colour, cabinetry handles, rangehood, lighting, tapware, benchtop and flooring. I started by compiling a selection of images for inspiration and then after gaining a fairly good idea of their aesthetic I put the ideas together on a concept board.

One of my favourite products in the new kitchen is the cylindrical rangehood. It has visually broken up all the straight lines in the kitchen and added interest to the space.
Another key decision in here was to ensure that the tiles went all the way to the ceiling to aid in making this relatively small kitchen feel larger and lighter.

Instead of replacing all the original cabinets & handles, we decided to get them powdercoated in white. The inspiration for this look was from this image of a Vipp kitchen.

To finish it off, simple and practical kitchen items were added to the benchtop and are in keeping with the predominantly black and white colour palette in the kitchen.

Interior Design Projects | Before & After

I thought it was high time I posted some pics of some of the interior design projects I've worked on this year. Many of them are now completed so I've managed to persuade my lovely clients to take some snaps or to let me pop back in to take some.

Residential Projects

The brief for this home was fairly straight forward. Basically they told me to 'remove the pink!' Other than that they wanted a family friendly, monochromatic kitchen and also wanted to use wallpaper somewhere in the home. The bathrooms are yet to be completed.

These clients wanted a kitchen that suited the size and era of their double story 100 year old villa. A wall was removed to create a large family kitchen with a walk in pantry. They were also keen to keep as much of the villa feel as possible, therefore cornice details and ceiling roses were matched as closely as possible to other areas of the home.

Art Deco Home
These clients wanted to use plenty of colour and keep their renovation true to the Art Deco style. I can only find the before pics of the bathroom for this one unfortunately.

In the next post I'll show you some work I've been doing on some investment properties, commercial buildings and student flats. In the meantime, I hope you all have a great Christmas & NY. Talia x
